I think that many people try to live in a world where they think the key to a happy life is to focus only on the good. But, only fairy tales have no evil and even most of those have an antagonist.
I was watching a video earlier by Pastor Francis Chan where he emphasizes that we should all be aware that Satan exists and that he is always working against us (video posted below). If you believe in Christ, you must believe that Satan exists too. Satan is the antagonist in our story. In fact, like Mr. Chan says in his video, Satan comes at us all the time through popular media and culture. Shows and movies involving spiritualists talking to the dead, crime and gore are just a few of the many themes in which he gets to us. But I digress.
Watching the video got me to thinking about a very vivid dream I had a long time ago. I am thinking I was in my teens, so at least 22-27 years ago. In the dream, I was living in a world being ruled by Satan. Myself and countless people were chained to a machine that resembled a furnace but with levers and such. We were made to work endlessly and not stop for a second or Satan would notice and punish us. My brother was in the spot next to me. No talking. No anything. The world was consumed with fire and the sky was red. Satan himself was enormous, like a giant. The landscape resembled the burnt out cityscape of New York or any other large city with skyscrapers. It truly was hell on Earth.
There is absolutely no reason to doubt this man’s story. It is so very authentic. And the way he describes God is exactly how I imagine God to be. This man was blessed to visit heaven and come back to tell about it. – Brad
This video is very interesting and makes a good point about the fundamental problems with evolution as applies to the creation of modern man. Evolution actually requires the subscriber to take as many leaps of faith as religion does.
One of the things I have heard more and more of over the years is people saying they are “spiritual” and “not religious”. Religion has become somewhat of a taboo word in modern western society. The word to them means rigidness, old fashioned and even worse, a cult that takes advantages of its members. And the term “organized religion” has become a dirty word.
The truth is that organized religion is perfect in the eyes of God when all participants are behaving according to the scripture. The hypocrites and evil doers that have used Christianity to harm others are the exact opposite of what the religion is about. But because evil people have claimed to be believers, it is easy for some to throw the baby out with the bathwater. John 4:24 “Do not let anyone who delights in false humility and the worship of angels disqualify you. Such a person also goes into great detail about what they have seen; they are puffed up with idle notions by their unspiritual mind.” Continue reading Spirituality vs Believing in God
Grand Island Nebraska, 1980. At this time I was in my apartment…
It was quite late at night and I was getting ready to go to bed. I had sat at the base of my bed and started to pray with intercession. I had been praying for some time and then prayed this prayer as I started to fall asleep:
“Lord, cover me with your full armor. Clothe me with the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the swiftness of your sandles, the shield of faith to deflect the fiery darts of the evil one, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is Your word. Lord also surround me with Your angels for protection and in some way, use me tonight.”
I grew up in household that didn’t speak much about God or Jesus. In fact, the only real exposure to God or Jesus was when my brothers and I would visit my Grandmother in Virginia. She would talk to us about God and Jesus and give us the occasional Christian coloring book. She was very firm in her beliefs and I believed her. But then we would hop on the Piedmont airliner and head home and get back into our regular non-Christian lives. I would continue to say my prayers once in awhile. And when I asked my parents “why don’t we go to church?” or say “we should go to church.” they would always reply “sure, we will go.” But that never happened. This journey took place in 1977 at Great Lakes Naval Training Center, 1978 on board the USS LaSalle and 1979 on board the USS Brooke.
In 1976 and 1977 I was stationed at Great Lakes Naval Training Center outside of Chicago, Illinois.
I was stationed at the Boot Camp Dining Facility. One year as the Night Baker and one year as a General Cook and breakfast cook for the officers. My nicknames were “The Killer Cook and Jesus number 2”..kind of a study in contrast. On the one hand I had to keep order of the recruits that were assigned to me and on the other hand a witness to recruits and the others I worked with. 13,000 recruits made their way to the mess decks three meals a day. When I would see recruits having a hard time, I would pull them aside and encourage them and give a short witness. I always had my Christian music playing and they were a captive audience. We humans have an understanding that things that are created must have a creator. Furthermore, we have always realized that there is a world, within our world, that is so tiny we can barely see it. With those two notions being accepted by the reader, then it is easy to see how mankind has always looked for a) a creator and b) something much bigger than ourselves (physically and metaphysically). Whether you see God or Jesus in your dream, in your day dreams or actually in person, these are all considered experiences and that is how God communicates with us.
In Biblical times God would communicate with many bona-fide. He would speak to them in various ways and they would deliver his word to the masses. Some of the profits were Moses, David, Jeremiah and Isaiah. There are many more. Continue reading Experiences Come in Many Forms
